Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels is a volunteer-driven program that provides hot nutritious meals to homebound or isolated seniors and to those with reduced autonomy.

More than 800 volunteer shoppers, cooks, and drivers work in 13 Meals on Wheels kitchens throughout the West Island. Volunteers come from all walks of life. Their combined efforts allow over 400 people, who have been referred through hospitals, CLSCs and rehabilitation centers to receive hot lunches at minimal cost.

The meals include a balanced main dish and a dessert. These are fresh, hot, home-cooked meals prepared by volunteers who add a secret ingredient: loving care. They are delivered by volunteers.

A frozen meal program is also available to West Island seniors without a medical or social service reference. A wide selection of low sodium and low fat meals, soups, and desserts are available. Meals can be purchased individually: a meal is $4.25, soups are $1.75 and desserts are $1.50 each. All orders are delivered by devoted volunteers.
